NP Couple Observe 55th Anniversary (Fred & Hazel Brooks)

Dr. and Mrs. Fred E. Brooks of North Port will celebrate their 55th wedding annivsary on June 24th. They were married on June 24th 1922 at Webster Groves, MO. and moved to Flordia in 1972.

They served many years with the public schools of Missouri, Mrs. Brooks as a high school teacher and Dr. Brooks, as a school administrator.

Dr. Brooks also taught Law and Education Courses at the University of Arizona, Emory University at Atlanta, Washington university at St. Louis and retired from the University of Southern Illinois.

Mrs. Brooks holds the B.S. Degree from the Southeast State University of Missouri and Dr. Brooks holds the Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree from St. Louis University Law School and the PhD from the University of Chicago.

During the past ten years they have taken advantage of part time retirement to travel, have been to the Holy Land, spent several summers in Europe and in 1967 they made a three month trip around the world visiting India and Africa.

At the present time they say they are enjoying their retirement in Florida. They have no trouble keeping busy as they hold offices in the Eastern Star, Venice No. 248. Dr. Brooks is president of the North Port Chapter AARP No. 1469, president of the Kansas-Missouri Club of Port Charlotte, serves on the Planning and Zoning Board of North Port. Mrs. Brooks loves to do knitting and Ceramic work and they both say “Being retired is GREAT.”
