When the call came on March 29, 1934, to Isaac Louis Brooks at his home at Brunot, Mo., an active career was concluded in which day labor was coordinated with the ministry of the Word for a full period of 40 years in Wayne Co., Mo., in the full hope of a, ” Well done, thou good and faithful servant, thou hast been ruler over few things, I will make thee ruler over many things.”
Isaac Louis Brooks was born Dec. 10, 1854, in Madison Co., Ill., where he grew to manhood. In 1872 he united with the Christian Church at Marine, under the ministry of Frank Talmage, pastor of the church. In 1874 he was married to Miss Sarah Thornborg, with whom he celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1924, and from whom he was parted by death in 1931.
Funeral services conducted by L. R. Norton of Piedmont, were held in the church at Brunot and subsequently in the church at Patterson, where burial was made by the body of his wife. At the latter place R. M. Talbert, secretary of the Southeastern Missouri District, participated -in the services
Of the 13 sons and daughters, nine survive: W. D. Brooks of Conway, Ark.; Eli Brooks of Patterson, Mo.; Millard Brooks of University City, Mo.; Charles of Bloomfield, Mo.; Fred of Webster Groves, Mo.; Mrs. Sadie Neely of Santa Ana, Calif.; Miss Ruth Brooks of Brunot, Mrs. L. H. Henson of Piedmont, Mo.; Mrs. H. L. Hovis of Patterson; Mo. Of his father’s family, two survive, D. H. Brooks and Mrs. Maggie Tabor, who have continued to reside at Marine.
To his family and his friends this man was a man in whom, the spirit of God dwelt. To the community, he was a good citizen and competent workman at the smithy’s forge, and a minister who faithfully broke the bread of life to waiting the countryside. Truly a faithful soldier of the cross has laid his arms by and entered into his reward.
