Charles E. Brooks is shown coming through the Civil War road, Stoney Battery, in an updated photograph. The road ran from Brunot to Patterson. Brooks (March 6, 1896-Sept. 20, 1983) wrote the bookley “Life in Wayne County.” His brother, William Donnelly Brooks (June 18, 1880-Nov. 14 1974) wrote “40 Years in Wayne County.” Their father was the Rev. Isaac L. Brooks (Dec. 10, 1854-Dec. 29, 1939). Copies of the two men’s work are on file at the Wayne County Historical Society Library, which is located in the Patterson Community Center.
